Kungs Vs Cookin' On 3 Burners Featuring Kylie Auldist 'This Girl' goes #1 in France!
‘This Girl’ the collaborative Australian single that teamed funk soul singer Kylie Auldist with hard hitting Hammond Organ Trio Cookin’ On 3 Burners, has gone #1 in the French singles charts. Young French producer Kungs re-recorded the funky track as a remix, and within a week, the single climbed the charts to first position. With over 400K plays on Spotify and almost 800K views on the lyric video already, the reimagined single is being well received by the Europeans.
Kungs (real name Brunel Valentin) is a 19 year-old producer from the south of France who started his musical career with a drum at the age of five. Growing up on a healthy diet of classic rock n’ roll from The Who to The Kinks, Kungs found electronic music in his early teens and became obsessed with merging melodic instruments with dominant vocals. ‘This Girl’ is a perfect fit for Kungs, melding the soul voice and vibes of Kylie Auldist and Cookin’ On 3 Burners with his own powerful hook. To accompany the song, Kungs also released an official video last week. Produced by La Main Productions and directed by Matt Larson, the clip follows a teenage boy and girl as they explore picturesque rocky landscapes and dance in caves by firelight.
Kungs’ remixes have been gaining attention over the years on social media, in particular his remix of Bob Marley ‘Jammin’ and Lana Del Rey ft Molly ‘West Coast’, with both versions boasting several million plays on Soundcloud and YouTube. In January this year, Kungs traveled Europe alongside mega DJ David Guetta, and in February, he released ‘This Girl’ as a single. Award-winning singer/songwriter Kylie Auldist is at centre stage of the funk, soul and disco scene in Australia. She had her music championed by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Craig Charles (BBC6 Music U.K.), Benji B (BBC Radio 1UK) and Mark Lamarr (BBC Radio 2 UK), and her songs have featured in TV shows including Satisfaction, Bondi Rescue and Packed To The Rafters. Having already released two singles from her upcoming solo album Family Tree, esteemed U.K label Freestyle Records have signed her on ahead of its European release in the middle of this year. Kylie Auldist has had a long collaborative relationship with Aussie funk/soul/jazz trio Cookin' On 3 Burners. In the summer of 2009, they went #1 on the UK iTunes RnB charts with 'This Girl', and soon after the band were signed to Freestyle Records. Over the years, Cookin' On 3 Burners have rocked the B-Boy and B-Girl championships, had songs featured on a string of hit TV shows and played alongside acts such as Quantic, Alice Russell, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings and Fat Freddie’s Drop.
